The Returning: Culture Camps
Disaster Ready with Country Culture Camp
Plan C has partnered with The Returning to offer this culture camp, consisting of a five-day camp providing participants with a comprehensive range of disaster resilience skills, including emotional, social, and practical competencies.
Learn disaster preparedness skills in an intergenerational space deeply connected to Country, culture, community and each other.
As extreme weather events such as floods and bushfires increase in frequency and severity, the limitations of government bodies and emergency services have become apparent. We need to come together as a community to be prepared. Community will save us in times of need and it will require us to take action and have a plan.
Plan C and The Returning have joined together to equip communities with the knowledge and tools we need to manage crises effectively, whether supported by emergency agencies or not. We are also building relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous and bringing lived experience to the table. By integrating cultural knowledge with practical disaster preparedness skills, the camps will provide an opportunity for two-way learning in the community – an opportunity for Indigenous participants to gain access to skills and training not widely available to them, and for non-Indigenous participants to learn how Indigenous cultural ways of being and doing can increase community resilience.
