This event will focus on Strengthening Communities through Conflict Management, particularly in the context of disaster response and recovery scenarios.
We all understand that conflict can arise when working with people, especially during a crisis or disaster, where emotions and tensions can run high. In such times, it's natural for communities to feel stressed and challenged. Across the small communities of the Northern Rivers NSW, we've heard a clear message: developing skills to manage and resolve conflict is an important priority.
These introductory workshops are designed to equip you with practical tools and strategies to navigate conflicts effectively, especially under the heightened pressures of disaster situations. This is a vast and complex topic. These 3.5-hour sessions will focus on how you can feel empowered to approach conflict in the community with confidence, turning potential challenges into opportunities for growth and connection.
This workshop will be co-facilitated by Bobbi Allan and Julie Walker. Bobbi is an educator with 35 years’ experience empowering diverse communities to cooperate for the common good; skilled meditation and mindfulness teacher and retreat leader. Julie is a seasoned social worker with 45 years’ experience in counseling, coaching, facilitation, mediation, restorative engagement and conflict management in community, government, universities, corporations, and NGO sectors.
Join us as we learn more deeply about how to manage conflicts in disaster scenarios. In this session we’ll practice:
Grounding in presence + deep listening.
Conflict styles + gaining fresh perspectives through mapping conflict dynamics.
Identifying barriers + working with structural power differentials
Whether you’re a community leader, an active volunteer, or simply someone who wants to contribute positively to response and recovery efforts, these events will offer a basic foundation to continue your journey toward becoming a more effective and compassionate community member.
This gathering is limited to 25 participants. We will ask you to confirm your place one week before and 24 hours before the event kicks off. If your registration arrives after we reach capacity, we’ll add your name to a waiting list.
