Apply now to become a Community Carer and Responder

After a harrowing, Covid-crisis January, we're starting February with exciting news!

We are thrilled to let you know that we have just opened applications to our Community Carers and Responders project funded by Resilience NSW via stream 2 of the Bushfire Community Resilience and Recovery Fund.

If you’ve ever wanted to be a volunteer, the Community Carers and Responders might be where you can lend a hand.

Community Carers and Responders (CCR) support people by assisting with critical aspects of community building and disaster resilience. Volunteers will receive free training in first aid and psychological first aid. They also learn about disaster resilience and community wellbeing, plus food, water, energy and housing security.

CCRs contribute to building community resilience and implement resilience projects of their own inspiration to support an atmosphere of caring within the community, and become conduits between emergency agencies and the community when needed.

As you gather, this project aims at supporting greater community crisis prevention, preparedness, response and recovery at community level. It seeks to achieve this by setting up a network of 100+ volunteer Community Carers and Responders (CCRs) across the Ballina, Byron, Tweed, Kyogle, Lismore and Richmond Valley LGAs who will form a trained, connected and empowered network of community leaders and neighborhood activators, dedicated to improving community cohesion and disaster resilience.

This project is being developed by Resilient Byron in partnership with Resilience NSW, disaster agencies and local community organisations. It is essentially a pilot initiative which recognises the gaps in integrated community-led disaster care and response, and aims to provide a solution in the form of an official from the ground-up community crisis role.
