Introducing the Resilient Byron team

As you may have seen in the Echo, Resilient Byron is thrilled to introduce its high calibre volunteer leadership team, who has recently formed to address resilience and regeneration in the Byron Shire. This announcement comes after we recently published an article in the Echo for expressions of interest to take up these roles.

Introducing; Melanie Bloor and Dr Claire McLisky, Geographic Groups co-leaders. Melanie is a connection cultivator, with a background in environmental science and community empowerment, and Claire is an adjunct lecturer at SCU. Seb Berry, Food Security leader. Seb is an ethical entrepreneur experienced in regenerative practices. Matt Kendall, Energy Security leader. Matt is a strategist and facilitator. Michael Murray, Housing Security leader. Michael is a property buyers agent and owner of Byron Property Search. Giulia Ogaza and Isabel Halse, Health and wellbeing co-leaders. Giulia is a psychologist, and Isabel is a naturopath, nutritionist and herbalist. Paul Sudmals, Safety and Emergency leader. Paul is a Firecom Officer in QLD, firefighter in NSW and former SES local controller. Dr Richard Hil, Research team leader. Richard is an academic and former convenor of the Ngara Institute. Ella Rose Goninan, vice-chair. Ella is the co-founder and director of Renew Fest and COREM and a director of the Community Power Agency. Dr Jean S. Renouf founder and chair. Jean is an academic at Southern Cross University and a local firefighter.

Along with this core team, Resilient Byron is supported by esteemed advisors and ambassadors, including Damon Gameau, author and filmmaker, including 2040 and That Sugar Film, Richard Hil, introduced earlier, Catherine Ingram, author and internationally renowned dharma teacher; Jennifer Joiner, a former corporate executive and an active member of Sourdough Business Pathways and Sourdough Business Women, and Delta Kay, an Arakwal Bumberbin Bundjalung woman.

“We are hugely grateful for all the interest that is being expressed to join this team and movement. Although we all have different roles, Resilient Byron is a collaborative tool to nurture a resilience and regeneration movement across the shire and beyond. In effect, we are all Resilient Byron” explains Dr Jean S. Renouf.

Resilient Byron acts as a facilitator, creating connections between stakeholders, but also community development organiser, supporting neighbourhoods in building their resilience, as well as an educator, organising events and advocating for regenerative and resilient solutions in the shire. “Resilient Byron is the missing link. A lot of great stuff is happening already in the Shire, but we need Resilient Byron to help us develop a shared vision, and resolve to transform our region together” says Ella Rose Goninan.

The call for a volunteer Safety & Emergency co-leader and a Water Security leader is still open. If you have experience and passion in these areas we would love to hear from you!
