NextGen Navigators: our way to strengthen youth disaster resilience

We've been busy in the background redesigning the CCR (Community Carers and Responders) program to adapt it to the needs and constraints of our youth. We will be piloting our new youth-focused disaster resilience network with Southern Cross University students in June, Mullumbimby High School students in July and another high school before the end of the year.

Our young volunteers will receive training in disaster skills and knowledge, first aid and CPR, psychological first aid, bushcraft skills and planning community building projects. We've renamed the Young CCR to NextGen Navigator because our aim is to not only build disaster resilience skills and knowledge, but also help identify pathways to other opportunities to contribute to community, including SES, RFS, Marine Rescue, Australian Red Cross and OzGreen.

We are delighted with the support and interest stakeholders, community members and students have expressed. Looking forward to sharing updates with you as the first pilot kicks off soon!
