New workshops: Rising Together: Food Security in the Northern Rivers
In our recent newsletter, we shared the exciting news that we will be hosting 11 empowering events called Rising Together. We want to aid our community in transitioning from flood recovery to disaster resilience through gatherings that will offer you a chance to make connections, exchange insights on community challenges, and bolster our resilience. We asked you through a survey what would make these gatherings meaningful in YOUR community and your feedback resonated loud and clear, guiding our decision to kick off with what matters most: ensuring our community's access to food.
It's hardly surprising to us. Do you recall reading our Northern Rivers Food Security report last year? It shed light on a concerning reality: we’re not that food secure in the Northern Rivers.
With that in mind, we've made the first 4 Rising Together events all about Food Security, and you are warmly welcome to join any one of them:
Byron: May 11th
Lismore: May 17th
Kyogle: June 14th
Casino: June 15th
We're thrilled to see people already registering for these events, and the ideas pouring in from participants on issues they would like to explore with others:
avenues to access land for food cultivation
regional initiatives addressing food security
key areas for food security preparedness, benefiting both self and community.
We've capped registrations at 25 to foster deeper connections and meaningful conversations. Rest assured, we'll maintain waiting lists. Everyone, regardless of their LGA, is more than welcome to join!
So let's come together to learn from each other about producing, growing, accessing and storing food.
Let's deepen our understanding of food security, from the broader picture down to our own dinner tables!
