Climate Impacted Alliance

At the end of March Jean Renouf, our CEO, embarked on a crucial journey to Canberra, representing climate-impacted communities in an alliance aimed at reshaping Australia's climate resilience efforts. From bushfire survivors to Traditional Owners, voices from across New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria, and the Torres Strait united to advocate for change.

The call is clear: climate-hit communities demand a seat at the table, urging policymakers to prioritise their voices in decision-making processes. With firsthand experiences and invaluable insights, these communities push for direct funding to co-design climate disaster prevention, preparation, and recovery strategies.

Together, we stand for genuine consultation, demanding that impacted communities play a central role in shaping the National Adaptation Plan. As Jean Renouf emphasised, collaboration between communities, governments, and experts is essential to crafting effective policies for a resilient future.

"Communities are already leading action, like local disaster plans and radio communications systems to resilient housing and food and water security. But we shouldn’t have to face this alone. These activities need serious amounts of government funding to expand. It's that simple really."
