Volunteer Team Leader Role Description

Resilient Byron (RB) is a not for profit organisation which aims to create, support and nurture a Byron Shire that is regenerative for people and the natural environment and resilient to the diverse impacts of the climate emergency.

Our primary aims are to:

  • Help communities and neighbourhoods develop their capacity to prepare for, respond to and recover from crises and disasters,

  • Increase social cohesion and regenerative capacity in the Byron shire and surrounds,

  • Support social infrastructures and our local economy.

We have made substantial progress in establishing community and neighbourhood resilience groups with Team Leaders in place. 

We are now seeking Team Leaders who can help to develop resilience in the key thematic areas of risk associated with the climate emergency including food security, water security, energy security, housing security, health/well-being, and safety/emergency.

Initially this role will focus on building knowledge of existing resources across Byron Shire and will then expand to include attracting additional volunteers and leading initiatives to improve resilience in the specific area of risk. 

Key Responsibilities

  1. Researching and building a database of existing organisations and initiatives across the shire

  2. Driving awareness of Resilient Byron with each of these organisations and seeking opportunities for cooperation and leverage

  3. Identifying gaps in resilience capabilities across the network of existing organisations

  4. Seeking to attract and either lead or coordinate volunteer teams to initiate projects to address these gaps

  5. Fostering cohesion, shared knowledge, resources etc. within key area of focus

  6. Support fundraising for this area of focus

Terms

This role is voluntary. 

Hours, location and duration of term are flexible but the expectation is that the successful candidate will be able to commit to a minimum of half a day a week.

Key Competencies

  • Some knowledge and/or previous experience in the chosen area of focus

  • Effective communicator

  • Ability to work with and successfully influence diverse stakeholders in the chosen area of focus 

  • Self starter with track record of driving initiatives

  • Highly passionate about resilience/regeneration in chosen area of focus
